Overview of Jobs4Youth

Jobs4Youth was announced by the Premier in February 2014 as part of the Modern Public Service Policy.

Jobs4Youth is a four year program to recruit 800 young people aged between 17 and 30 to the South Australian public sector between 2014 and 2017, giving more young people a start in public sector jobs and helping to address the ageing workforce.

Apart from having a 12 month employment contract, all trainees are employed under a Contract of Training to complete a Certificate III level qualification. The majority of traineeships being offered are administrative, and participants complete a Certificate III in Business.

All graduate participants are employed in roles that complement the studies they have completed and will undertake a Public Sector Fundamentals Skill Set.

To have the opportunity to achieve ongoing employment status, a participant must successfully achieve three components:

  • successful completion of their study component (or Contract of Training for trainees)
  • satisfactory performance appraisals throughout their employment
  • uphold the public sector values.
