Modern HR Series

The Office for the Public Sector recognises the way we work is changing. This is due to many factors and environmental pressures such as globalisation, rapid technological change and tougher competition.

These changing elements present a need for Human Resources to play a critical role in helping agencies navigate these transitions. That’s why we’ve created the Modern HR Series – a suite of informative and practical skill building sessions to support practitioners partnering with agencies across the South Australian Public Sector.

About the sessions

To ensure Human Resources’ services across the South Australian Public Sector provide the best possible value to agencies and, in turn, the community, these sessions will provide a consistency of practice and expertise as well as an opportunity to collaborate and network with peers.

Who should attend?

These sessions are targeted at Human Resources Business Partners looking to enhance existing skills and share knowledge with their peers.

Business Partners may include: practitioners currently partnering with an agency to provide a People and Culture service specific to their needs (e.g. HR, OD, WHS, Workforce Planning and the like).

Workshops: November 2017 - December 2017

Reward, Recognition & Our Values: In this session we will share case studies of how, through recognising positive behaviours, agencies have supported embedding the South Australian Public Sector Values.

Cindy Flower, Manager Organisational Reform, will present on DEWNR’s Rewards and Recognition program including their ‘Green Globe’ Awards. Kirstie Walkley, Manager Engagement Programs, will present DECD’s newly refreshed Rewards and Recognition program – ‘Performance Through Values’.

 Embedding Performance Management and Development: HR professionals (AS05-AS08), who provide a consultancy service to managers, are invited to attend this workshop which focuses on the role HR professionals play in embedding performance management and development within a public sector agency. Participants will have the opportunity to identify and build their skills in consulting and influencing, as well as the knowledge required to support the business unit to achieve its priorities using sound practice around the performance of employees. This session will be presented by organisational psychologist Verity Hall.


HR Practitioners’ Information Session: This interactive session will outline provisions of the Public Sector Act 2009, specifically regarding what is expected of the public sector and its employees. This session will cover the general application of the Act including Part 7 provisions. This session will be presented by Craig Stevens, Executive Solicitor, Crown Solicitor’s Office, and Natalie Morris, Director Governance and Performance, Office for the Public Sector.
